Last week, Kelowna came alive with an unforgettable Black History Month Cultural Celebration—a night filled with music, dance, fashion, and powerful storytelling. The event brought the community together to honor Black history, celebrate culture, and simply enjoy good vibes with amazing people.
The evening was packed with live musical performances, soul-stirring poetry, a high-energy fashion show, an electrifying Kizomba dance workshop, and incredible sets from top DJs who kept the crowd moving. Every performance was a celebration of creativity and heritage, filling the room with energy and pride.
One of the standout moments of the night was the panel discussion, where speakers shared personal stories, insights, and reflections on Black history, identity, and contributions to Canadian society. The conversations were thought-provoking and inspiring, leaving attendees with a deeper understanding of the importance of recognition and representation.
And let’s talk about the food—because it was phenomenal! Guests got to indulge in a delicious selection of authentic African and Caribbean dishes, from flavorful jollof rice to perfectly fried plantains. Every bite was a celebration of culture, bringing people together over shared traditions and new flavors.
The night wasn’t just about performances and food—it was about community. Seeing people connect, dance, and celebrate together was a beautiful reminder of why events like this matter. Whether it was trying out Kizomba moves, cheering on the models during the fashion show, or simply vibing with the music, the event was a true reflection of unity and joy.
The event was supported by FortisBC, BCLC, Open Door Group, City of Kelowna and Okanagan Echo.
Let’s keep celebrating Black culture—not just in February, but all year round.
