The BGC Okanagan’s Drop-In programs has received a very generous donation from a local author.
In a news release, the BGC Okanagan said it has received $50,000 from Dan Martell, a Kelowna-based entrepreneur, author and coach.
The organization said this latest donation has brought them closer to their goal of $125,000 for its Prevent Youth Homelessness campaign.
“This is about more than preventing homelessness,” says Martell. “It’s about giving young people hope, the tools to succeed, and the confidence to build a brighter future.”
BGC Okanagan’s drop-in programs are offered in Oliver, Osoyoos, West Kelowna, Kelowna and Vernon.
The programs are meant to engage youth in fun, educational and skill-building activities.
BGC Okanagan says the programs can address factors that can help prevent youth homelessness.
“Sometimes, all it takes is one positive connection to change the trajectory of a young person’s life,” says Richelle Leckey of BGC Okanagan.
“Our staff provide not only a safe environment but also encouragement, mentorship, and pathways to essential resources.”
BGC Okanagan says the impact of the programs is clear but they, along with the latest campaign, need ongoing support.
